I want to congratulate you on your participation in the success we—The Bill Anderson Fund—have experienced over the last five and a half years. It is because of your support that we have achieved so much and developed this organization into one that has served so many current and future minority professionals in the field of disaster and hazard research and practice. Thank you.
This is also a letter of gratitude to three members of our BAF 501(c)(3) Board of Directors: John Cooper (Assistant Vice President and Director, Texas Target Communities, Texas A&M University), Ron Henderson (Retired Director of Research NEA) and Dennis Mileti (Professor Emeritus, University of Colorado, Boulder). Each of these individuals has contributed immensely to building the BAF into what we are today and in the hard work of carving out our path ahead and our connection to the University of Delaware and creation of the Flagship. We simply would not and could not have accomplished all we have without their dedication and hard work.
Now that the flagship is established at the UDEL under the directorship of Monica Sanders we want to explain some of the changes that are occurring. While the development of the flagship and the satellites will reside with the University of Delaware, we are excited about some major changes in the role of the BAF 501(c)(3) that will continue to be held with Norma Anderson as President and our Board of Directors:
- The BAF 501(c)(3) will be responsible for ensuring that the housing institution of the BAF Flagship (the University of Delaware) will continue to develop in accordance with the mission of the 501(c)(3).
- The BAF 501(c)(3) will continue to hold responsibility for and ownership of the annual BAF Disaster Dash 5K. Certain regulations prevent the University of Delaware from hosting out of state fundraising events, and although the scope of the BAF 501(c)(3) will change course, we will use the Disaster Dash to support our continued mission.
- As President of the BAF 501(c)(3), Norma Anderson will consider invitations to speak and engage in other activities in support of the BAF and the advocacy that has been central to the organization’s mission since its creation. Flagship Director Monica Sanders is the representative of the Flagship and Satellite operations and its projected expansion.
- We are excited to develop an award in 2020 for BAF Fellows Alumni who have made a significant contribution to the issues expressed in our mission and/or through the Collaborative Communities Initiative. We will begin a search for a sponsor to support this reward during the first quarter of 2020.
As we prepare to look ahead to 2020, your support of the BAF and our Fellows remains vital. Help us transition during this important time by making your gift online today or via mail—postmarked no later than tomorrow, December 31, 2019, to the address below:
