IAEM Scholarship Program Seeks Member Support

Next month, many of you will be attending the IAEM Annual Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Before you leave home, don’t forget look around and put the item that you think will sell well in the auction into your suitcase. If you want to send an item in advance, hit reply and request a special shipping label. We will collect auction items beginning on Sunday in the Silent Auction Booth in the Registration area in the convention center. Items will be sorted into the Live and Silent Auctions. Please help in making this year’s auctions the best ever.

The Live Auction will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, on the stage in the EMEX Exhibit hall from 6:30-8:00. You can preview the items and register for your bid paddle beginning Monday in Scholarship Auction booths near registration or in the stage area on Tuesday beginning at 5:30. It will be a fun-filled evening with the money going for a good cause. The Silent Auction will be ongoing in the Registration Area. Check back often because items are added frequently.  The bidding will close for the Silent Auction on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at noon. If you see something you must have, you can pay the “Buy It Now” price and take the item with you at any time during the auction days.

The Basket Bonanza Raffle also will be taking place this year. Regions, Councils and other groups have been gathering items for thematic baskets. Be sure to stop by the registration area an look at them. You can purchase your tickets there, or from the many students and others that will be selling throughout the week.  You select the baskets you want to potentially win by putting your tickets in the bag in front of it.

At Home

If you are not coming to the conference, you can still help the Scholarship Program raise funds to support scholarships for deserving students working towards degrees in emergency management, disaster management, or a related field.  You can donate to the program by visiting the IAEM website and donating online.

Another way to help is to shop! As you do your regular shopping, you could be making automatic donations to the IAEM Scholarship Program.  When you shop at more than 800 participating online stores through iGive.com, a portion of each purchase comes back to the IAEM Scholarship Program in the form of a donation check. It’s free for you, free for us, and you pay the same (or less!) than you would by going directly to the store. Shopping online means no wasted gas and no more standing in long lines at the mall. And to all you smart shoppers: don’t miss iGive’s treasure-trove of coupons, sales, and free-shipping offers. Save money, save time, and send gifts that give twice. What could be better than that?  See for yourself at www.iGive.com/iaemscholarship. Just create your account and select IAEM Scholarship as your charity. Be sure to visit iGive before you shop and choose your online retailer through the iGive mall.

I actually participate with iGive and it is easy. They now have an icon you can drag onto your browser bar. Anytime you visit a store that is in their program, it automatically credits the program, as long as you have signed up and selected IAEM Scholarship as your charity. Please consider doing this. I find that I give about $1 or more every time I shop.
